Energy Work Techniques

Like the rest of the body’s systems such as the circulatory system, the digestive system and the nervous system, the optimum functioning of the energy system is vital to the wellbeing of the human body. For over 3500 years*, the energy system of the human body has been studied by practitioners across a wide array of modalities.

Your body naturally has a weak magnetic field, and it generates electricity (at a small scale), which allows for nerves and cells to communicate and keeps your body functioning as it should. Every molecule in your body possesses a small amount of electromagnetic energy. Health issues may disrupt these magnetic fields, preventing them from properly operating.

This energy network is made up of meridians or channels located throughout the body in an intricate web of interconnecting lines. This allows the distribution of energy or Qi (pronounced chee) to circulate freely. The system flows in a cyclical pattern commonly known as yin and yang. Bio-electric impulses located at the intersection (acupoints) of the meridians can be activated in a variety of ways.

There are also cyclical flows of energy accumulation located in larger centers of the body such as the midline, backline, palms, and feet as well as above the head are called Chakras. We also have an energy field, or a subtle body of energy that radiates out from our core. This energy field may be commonly called the auric field which is also comprised of electromagnetic energy as well as light reflecting in a variety of colors. As we move further out away from the body and simultaneously deeper into the heart center…we open into a more subtle energy one that is often associated with a spiritual practice and considered the soul. Together these energy centers process emotional energy and physical energy (yours and other’s) that ultimately manifest in your physical body.

Energy Techniques

When in balance the physical, emotional, and mental systems of the body are working in harmony, and health and wellbeing are experienced. However, due to the many stresses of life, for example, trauma, bad diet, injury, drugs, and alcohol, or mental and emotional stresses, there tend to be blockages, stagnation, and/or surplus energy leading to imbalance. Imbalance can cause injury, disease, illness, and mental or emotional issues.

The importance of balance cannot be overstated. In order to function in a state of well-being, harmony in the energy system of the body must be achieved. There are many pathways to that balance.
